What makes this recipe so yummy

  • Any copycat recipe that you can make in the quickest time possible with little effort and is visually stunning is a major bonus! You could pull this dish out when you have guests and they will be blown away by your culinary prowess - with no idea on what an easy recipe it was.
  • It's about the only time I'll go to a steakhouse and not order steak. I'm a big prime rib fan.

Groceries you'll need: Ingredients

  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Lemons
  • Oregano
  • Garlic Powder
  • Paprika
  • Fresh Parsley

See recipe card at the bottom of this post for quantities.

Recipe walkthrough: Instructions

This is an overview of the recipe steps. For more detailed instructions visit the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

four images showing step by step how to make Texas roadhouse grilled shrimp
  • Step 1: Add the olive oil, salt, fresh lemon juice, oregano, black pepper, garlic powder and paprika to a large mixing bowl and give a good stir to combine.
  • Step 2: Add the peeled, deveined shrimp to the mixture and make sure it's all coated well and cover. Put in the refrigerator for 30-60 minutes.
  • Step 3: Put the large size shrimp onto skewers and cook over medium-high heat for about 2-3 minutes each side, turning with tongs.
  • Step 4: Serve over seasoned rice with chopped parsley and lemon wedges.

Hint: You don't have to leave the tail on if you don't want to. The tail is usually kept on just for aesthetic purposes (makes it more visually attractive). However, some people do like to eat those crunchy tails so I guess it depends.

Recipe variations and substitute ideas

  • Garlic Butter - drizzle some melted butter over the shrimp at the end of cooking, infused with cloves garlic.
  • Onion Powder - add ¾ Teaspoon of onion powder too if you like to add that.
  • Old Bay - this super popular seasoning could be good in place of some of the other seasoning.
  • Lime Juice - use lime juice in place of lemon juice.
  • Own seasoning - if you have your own seasoning combination you prefer good news is it won't affect this dish too much.
  • Dipping Sauce - try offering my seafood sauce on the side. It's easy to make has a lot of flavor and is delicious with all seafood.
  • Cheddar Cheese - some people like to sprinkle cheese over their grilled shrimp.
  • Warm Rolls - offer some warm rolls on the side, like Texas Roadhouse offers.
  • Worcestershire Sauce - to add a little umami, or soy sauce.
  • Hot Sauce - to add a little heat if you like.
  • Creole Mustard Sauce - this is great too.

Necessary gear: Equipment

How are you cooking your Texas Roadhouse Grilled Shrimp recipe? If you're using a grill pan, you'll need that at least. Or a barbecue.

Mixing bowl for the marinating as well as shrimp skewers (these can be bamboo or metal). I have some affiliate links in the recipe card below.

How to store leftovers

Once allowed to cool completely store the shrimp in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Mel's kitchen notes

If you are cooking over the barbecue make sure to soak the wooden skewers in water first - for a few hours if possible. It will stop them burning.

Frequently asked questions: FAQs

How long can I marinate shrimp?

It depends if there is citrus in your marinade. In this recipe there is a lot of lemon juice and it will start to cook the shrimp if left too long. Don't go longer than 1 hour.

Notes

Don't marinate the shrimp for longer than 1 hour or the lemon juice will start to cook the shrimp and it will make them tough.
You don't have to keep the tail on the shrimp, you can opt to remove them if you like. They're just for show anyway (although I know some people that like to eat them).
