Carnival Season in New Orleans leads to high demand for King Cake. Let's make it at home.

Sugar

Flour

Cinnamon

Brown Sugar

Candied Pecans

Cream Cheese

Vanilla

Sour Cream

Milk

Butter

Yeast

Salt

Eggs

Heat the butter, sour cream, sugar and salt.

Prove the yeast by mixing it with warm water and sugar and wait for 5 minutes.

Mix the yeast mixture with the sour cream mixture then add eggs and flour.

Knead this dough mixture until you feel elasticity.

On a large work surface roll out the dough into a large rectangle.

Spread your chosen filling onto the dough.  Leave a little space around the edges.

Carefully roll the dough on the long side.

Place on a baking sheet with parchment paper and press the ends together, closing the seams.

Bake for 20 minutes then allow to cool completely.  Then decorate using your favorite icing and sanding sugars.

Don't forget to hide the baby Jesus. It's tradition!

Decorate with Mardi Gras colors (purple, green and yellow)

Then add a little bling!
