All Purpose Seasoning blend is good on fish, chicken, pork chops and beef. As well as salads and just about anything else you can think of.

It's my go-to spice blend. I love to sprinkle it on my French Fries even.

What makes this recipe yummy

  • You know I'm in the deep south, where everything is seasoned to perfection. My seasoning blends need to impress some pretty awesome home cooks, and I don't disappoint.
  • Making your seasoning blends at home means you can control the flavor according to your preferences. If you like it more salty, just increase the salt. Like heat, up the cayenne.
  • Making anything homemade really helps with your budget at home, especially in today's economy.
  • It's a perfect blend of everyday spices that add perfect flavor.

Recipe walkthrough: Instructions

This is an overview of the recipe steps. For more detailed instructions visit the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Overhead shot of a wooden container with seasoning about to be mixed up.
  • Step 1: Add all quantities to a medium sized container.
  • Step 2: Mix well with a small whisk, if you have one.
  • Step 3: Decant to a suitable contianer for storing the all purpose seasoning.

Hint: Depending how you are planning on storing this DIY all purpose seasoning, you could mix it by adding to a plastic container with a lid and giving a good shake. Or even add to a ziplok bag and give a good shake, then cut the corner to pour into chosen container.

Recipe variations and substitute ideas

  • White Pepper - A little of this can be nice.
  • Garlic Salt - if this is all you have instead of the granulated garlic this is ok, just adjust the salt level.
  • Salt - either sea salt or kosher salt is fine.
  • Red Pepper Flakes - for a little bit more heat (or a lot if you prefer)

Barely anything is needed. A measuring spoon set, a container to mix the seasonings in and a container for storing the seasoning.

I have a couple of affiliate links in the recipe card below.

How to store leftovers

Store in an airtight container at room temperature. It will remain good for up to 1 month. After which it will have lost some of it's flavor.

Since we decanted already and have mixed through the seasonings it will have taken some of the potency.

Mel's kitchen notes

Don't forget to add some to a shaker (that has a shaker top), for daily use.
