Easter Leftover Candy Chocolate Trifle

PLATED TRIFLE WITH FORK TRIFLE DISH IN THE BACKGROUND
A trifle is always pleasing to the eye yet really simple to make which is why I love to make them. They can be made out of anything - I usually make the traditional fruit/custard for the family but I pull this chocolate style recipe out whenever I have excess candy/chocolate. Easter and Halloween typically! Such a treat and a great use for all that candy about to go to waste!

This recipe is great to re purpose some of that chocolate. It's visually impressive, easy to make and everyone will love it!

What's great about a chocolate trifle is you can't really go wrong.

You know what goes together, I typically go for the traditional option of fruit and custard etc but there is no limits when it comes to changing it up!

All you need to do is invest in a trifle bowl and you'll get years of surprising everyone with an easy to make dessert.

Groceries you'll need: Ingredients

ingredients needed to make an Easter Candy leftovers trifle
  • Favorite type of brownie
  • Cool Whip slightly softened
  • Chocolate pudding
  • Leftover Easter Candy (or Halloween)

See recipe card for quantities.

Recipe walkthrough: Instructions

This is an overview of the recipe steps. For more detailed instructions visit the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

steps on how to make a chocolate trifle with leftover easter candy.
  • Step 1: Take your prepared brownie and make the first layer on the bottom of a trifle dish and top with chocolate pudding.
  • Step 2: Add a layer of leftover Easter candy. Chopped if preferred. In this trifle I managed to get a whole hollow egg, about 8 Reese's peanut butter eggs, some Moon Pies, a Heavenly Hash and few small candies. The point is, which candy you use doesn't really matter, a lot of people like to use Heath bars, Snickers etc. It just all goes together and creates a melty wonderfulness in your mouth!
  • Step 3: Top with a layer of cool whip and repeat layers with the final layer being cool whip.
  • Step 4: Use chopped candy to decorate the top.

Hint: Use box mix brownies and instant chocolate pudding to make this a simple dessert..... or make them homemade.

Recipe variations and substitute ideas

  • Vanilla Pudding- Instead of just using chocolate pudding add some vanilla pudding too.
  • Oreo Cookies - For some more texture add a layer of Oreo cookies.
  • Peanut Butter - If you find you have quite a lot of Reeses candy you could add a peanut butter based layer. Mix creamy peanut butter with a vanilla pudding.

How to store leftovers

Due to the cream/cool whip in this recipe it will need to be kept refrigerated. Cover with cling wrap and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
