🥣 Instructions
This is an overview of the recipe steps. For more detailed instructions visit the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Step 1: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the hash browns for about 5-10 minutes, until golden brown then add to a 9x13" baking dish.
- Step 2: Add the juicy ground beef and white onions to the same skillet and cook until no more pink remains.
- Step 3: Drain the fluid, then add mustard and seasonings.
- Step 4: Empty into the casserole dish with the hash browns and mix together.
- Step 5: Sprinkle the shredded cheese all over the top. Mix some in if you like.
- Step 6: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes.
- Step 7: While the Big Mac Casserole is baking, mix together the delicious Big Mac Sauce (that's a special sauce). Add the ketchup, mayonnaise, chopped pickles and pickle juice to a small mixing bowl, and mix together.
- Step 8: Remove the casserole from the oven and pour the sauce over the top.
- Step 9: Add the toppings on top of the hamburger casserole for serving.
Hint: You can mix some of the cheese into the meat mixture, to add a little moisture, then sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.
🔄 Substitutions and Variations
- Sesame Seeds - sprinkle some of these on top.
- Thousand Island Dressing - you could use this instead of making the Big Mac Sauce.
- Worcestershire Sauce - add a drop of this to the ground meat for a taste of umami.
- Frozen Tater Tots - use crispy tater tots instead of hash browns, for a Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole.
- Yellow Onions - instead of white onions.
- Cream Cheese - Stir some of this into the ground beef mixture.
- French Dressing - Use this instead of making the sauce.
- Dill Pickle Relish - if you don't have sliced pickles.
- White Vinegar - add this to the sauce if you don't have pickle juice.
- Ground Chicken - you could make it a little healthier by using ground chicken or ground turkey.
- French Fries - use these instead of hash browns.
- Seasoning Salt - use this in place of the salt and pepper.
- Heavy Cream - add a touch to the ground beef mixture.

I made this tonight and it was great! I don't like ketchup so I subbed for a different burger sauce and I used a carton of dehydrated hash browns instead of home fries since that's that I had. I would make this recipe again!
