Crockpot Frito Pie is a delicious south-western flavored dish full of spice and flavor. Serving chili over fritos is such a fabulous way to incorporate that masa flavor into your plate of chili.
Although we make this on Game Day and for get-togethers it's also a great recipe that you can load into the slow cooker in the morning before work and come home to a fabulous meal!

Recipe walkthrough: Instructions
This is an overview of the recipe steps. For more detailed instructions visit the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Step 1: Brown the ground beef in a large skillet until no pink remains.
- Step 2: While the ground beef is browning add all the other ingredients (except the fritos) to the crock pot.
- Step 3: Once the ground meat has browned, drain the fluid and add to the slow cooker.
- Step 4: Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.
- Step 5: Serve over frito corn chips, with your favorite toppings.
- (optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, jalapenos, green onions, red onions, etc.)
Hint: Using Mexene Chili Powder is a little short cut I like to use instead of using a few different spices. Their mixture of chili powder and cumin is perfectly balanced.
Recipe variations and substitute ideas
- Ground Venison - instead of ground beef.
- Ground Turkey - instead of ground beef.
- Cheddar Cheese - as a topping is great.
- Taco Seasoning - instead of the Mexene chili powder mix.
- Black Beans - these are great in a chili.
- Kidney Beans - same as above.
- Chicken Broth - use this instead of beef broth if you don't have any.
