Ham and Cheese Bites

These ham and cheese bites are delicious little finger foods that are so simple to make and a delicious treat at the same time. Perfect for a game day snack or any gathering you need party food for.

  • Refrigerated Puff Pastry Dough
  • Sliced Cheese
  • Sliced Deli Ham
  • Butter, unsalted
  • Salt
  • Garlic Powder
  • Parsley

  • Step 1: Unroll the pastry and lay out on top of the paper provided.
  • Step 2: Arrange the slices of ham and cheese over the dough.
  • Step 3: Roll up on the long side using the parchment paper to help, on the long edge.
  • Step 4: Using a sharp knife cut the roll into 12 equal pieces.

  • Step 5: Arrange those slices in a muffin pan and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Step 6: Brush with the butter mixed with garlic powder, salt and parsley.

Hint: The ham and cheese bites will be easier to remove from the pan once they have cooled somewhat, they become firmer.

Recipe variations and substitute ideas

  • Green Onions - sprinkle with these before you roll them up.
  • Cream Cheese - spread over the pastry first.
  • Swiss Cheese - this is a great cheese choice.
  • Honey Mustard - spread a little over the pastry first, or offer as a dip.
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese - this is a great cheese choice.
  • Dijon Mustard - again, spread a little over the pastry.
  • Black Pepper - sprinkle with this.
  • Onion Powder - add a little to the melted butter.
  • Olive Oil - use this instead of the butter.
  • Crescent Dough - Use in place of the puff pastry.
  • Goat Cheese - use this as the cheese in this recipe.
  • Egg Mixture - replace the puff pastry with an egg mixture and you can have a great snack for a keto diet. Or a low-carb diet.
  • Pizza Dough - you could use this instead of the puff pastry.
  • Spinach - spinach and feta works great in this recipe too.

I use a muffin pan (cupcake pan) to make sure the ham puffs hold their shape while baking. You could even use a mini muffin pan and make super small versions of this recipe.

You'll also need a pastry brush.

How to store leftovers

Once they have cooled completely, remove from muffin tins and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, for up to 4 days.

You can allow them to sit at room temperature for a few hours before refrigeration is needed.

Add to a freezer bag and store for up to 3 months.

Really change these ham and cheese bites up by using your favorite ingredients and spices. This is a really great recipe for using up any leftover ham or meat you have.

Ham and Cheese Bites

Equipment

  • Wilton Cupcake Pan, 12-Cup, Steel

Ingredients

  • 1 (13.2 Ounce) Package Refrigerated Puff Pastry Dough Sheets
  • 6 Each Large Slices Ham
  • 8 Slices White American Cheese
  • 3 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter unsalted
  • ¼ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Dried Parsley
  • ⅛ teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and spray a 12 cupcake pan with cooking spray.
  • Unroll the puff pastry leaving the paper provided on the underneath.
    1 (13.2 Ounce) Package Refrigerated Puff Pastry Dough Sheets
  • Arrange the ham and cheese slices on top of the pastry.
    6 Each Large Slices Ham, 8 Slices White American Cheese
  • Roll up like a Swiss roll, on the long edge.
  • Using a sharp knife cut the roll into approximately 12 (1 inch) slices.
  • Arrange those slices laying down in the cupcake pan.
  • Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Melt the butter then add the garlic powder, parsley and salt. Mix well. Brush over the top of the ham and cheese bites when you take them out of the oven.
    3 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, ¼ teaspoon Garlic Powder, ¼ teaspoon Dried Parsley, ⅛ teaspoon Salt
  • Allow to cool slightly in the pan before trying to remove.

Notes

They will be very soft when first coming out of the oven. Allowing the ham and cheese bites to cool in the pan before trying to remove them will allow them time to firm up and be removed easier.
