What makes this recipe so yummy

  • Depending on how much you like garlic you can customize it to how you prefer. We love a lot of garlic so the recipe is quite garlic heavy. If you prefer less, just reduce the amount of cloves used.
  • You can make this garlic bread in less than 5 minutes then into the oven.

Groceries you'll need: Ingredients

Recipe walkthrough: Instructions

This is an overview of the recipe steps. For more detailed instructions visit the recipe card at the bottom of this post

A baking sheet with a loaf of stuffed garlic bread still in foil.
  • Step 1: Using a bread knife (a serrated knife) slice the French loaf width ways, about 1" between slices. Not all the way through the loaf though.
  • Step 2: Add the remaining ingredients to a small bowl and mix with a spoon until it's totally combined.
  • Step 3: Spoon the garlic butter filling between each slice, evenly.
  • Step 4: Wrap the whole loaf up in aluminum foil and place in the oven on a baking tray.
  • Step 5: After 25 minutes open up the foil and bake a further 5 minutes until crispy on the outside.

Hint: Make more of a cheesy bread by adding some mozzarella cheese or cheddar (or your favorite cheese).

Recipe variations and substitute ideas

  • Garlic Powder - instead of fresh garlic.
  • Ranch Dressing - instead of the salt and pepper add a teaspoon of dry ranch dressing.
  • Olive Oil - add a little olive oil to the butter mixture.
  • Mozzarella Slices - stuff slices of mozzarella cheese between pieces.
  • Chicken Breast - shred a chicken breast and add stuff bread.
  • Meat Sauce - Try making a meat sauce and cheese stuffed bread.
  • Jalapeno Pieces - add a few between slices.
  • Chili Flakes - add a teaspoon chilli flakes to the herb butter.
  • Cream Cheese - for a little creaminess.
  • Red Pepper - for a little heat.
  • Ciabatta Bread - Ciabatta bread can be a little more crusty.

How to store leftovers

After it has cooled completely you can store in the refrigerator in an airtight container with a little paper towel - or wrap back up in aluminum foil. It'll be good for about 4 days, just warm up in the microwave for a few seconds.

Mel's kitchen notes

If you like to regularly have garlic bread for your meals make a large batch of the butter mixture using your stand mixer and store in the refrigerator. That way all you need do is reach for that butter and spread onto your bread loaf.

Frequently asked questions: FAQs

What if I like my garlic bread more toasty?

The easiest way is to remove the foil a little sooner, give it a little longer in the oven open to the heat and separate the slices a little if possible.

Is Garlic Bread healthy?

Not really. There is not much nutrients, but like anything - this garlic baguette in moderation is ok.

¾ Cup Unsalted Butter, 8 Cloves Garlic, 1 teaspoon Salt, ½ teaspoon Black Pepper, ½ Cup Parmesan Cheese, 2 teaspoons Dried Parsley
  • Using a spoon mix the ingredients well until you have an even butter.
  • Spoon the butter stuffing between each slice, evenly.

Notes

We like our garlic, this recipe does use a lot (but it is garlic bread right). If you don't like such a bold garlic flavor, use less cloves.
Some people prefer to slice the bread in half lengthways (like a sandwich), stuff it that way. Then cut it after it has cooked. No way is better.... whichever you prefer.
