Due to the use of imitation crab and frozen shrimp this salad can be made year round.

I do love to use fresh shrimp when I can though, as I live on the coast. There's nothing better than freshly caught shrimp.

What makes this recipe so yummy

  • Make my recipe in less than 10 minutes with easy items from the grocery store.
  • It's so light and refreshing it makes a nice change to have this for lunch, or as an appetizer.
  • I'm in the deep deep south, as south as you can get in Louisiana. If you haven't heard, the flavors and tastes around here are amazing and I impart that knowledge into every dish I create.

Step 4: Stir together and serve with your favorite crackers, bread etc.

Hint: it's not always easy to find fresh dill for us. If you are in a bind use the dried type like I did for this particular time.

Recipe variations and substitute ideas

  • Black Pepper - added for more peppery flavor.
  • Olive Oil - add for extra dressing.
  • Avocado - tastes great when added.
  • Old Bay Seasoning - for the seafood seasoning is wonderful.
  • Hot Sauce - for some added heat.
  • Creole Seasonings - or Cajun Seasoning
  • Lime Juice - instead of lemon juice.
  • Cooked Pasta - add some fresh cooled cooked pasta.
  • Sweet Pickle Relish - this can work great in this recipe.
  • Real Crab - use this instead of imitation crab meat.
  • Lobster - if you can, adding some lobster meat is always a good thing.
  • Grape Tomatoes
  • Green Onions
  • Fresh Herbs (e.g. parsley, thyme)
  • Fresh Veggies

What To Eat With Seafood Salad

Lettuce - Serve the seafood salad as a little lettuce wrap.
Sandwich - some people like to eat the seafood salad on bread, as a sandwich.
Crackers - Add a little crunch and serve some crackers on the side.
Corn - a delicious corn on the cob is a great side dish.
Sweet Potato Fries - talk about a perfect accompaniment.
Stuffed Garlic Bread - adds a little crunch and some beloved carbs.

How to store leftovers

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Mel's kitchen notes

Don't turn up your nose at the thought of imitation crab. Did you know it's actually made out of fish? It's not really a fake thing, it's still seafood.... but the fish they use mimics the same texture and sweetness as crab meat.
